Do Posts From GBP End Up in AI Results?
September 2026I put a made-up word in a Google Business Profile Post to see whether Search and AI could find it.
The word was gibberalatodocuklash. We published it in a GBP Post for Steady Demand. We did not put it on SteadyDemand.com.
Then we went looking for it.
On September 25, we tested Google Search, AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Maps. We started with the word alone and worked up to telling the AI tools exactly which business and content type to look for.
None of the counted attempts retrieved the post.
There is one issue that limits the whole test: The post is in GBP but since it is a month old it does not show in the KP, only the last 10 posts are visible. These results describe one post we could not retrieve.
Finding the business wasn’t enough
Several tools found Steady Demand. They found our website, social accounts and even our Yelp listing. That wasn’t what we asked for.
A hit needed to lead back to the actual GBP Post or acknowledge the content exists.. Repeating the word from our question, guessing what it meant or linking to our homepage did not count.
Some Google answers went further than the evidence. They said the word did not exist in our profile; one said it did not exist anywhere on the public internet. The cited pages did not establish either claim.
That distinction matters. “I couldn’t find it” is a search result. “It doesn’t exist” needs more evidence.
What came back
We also used a sentence from our Citation Ledger methodology page to check whether the tools could retrieve a known website source.
| Surface | Post retrieved | Website control |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search / AI Overviews | 0 of 8 searches | Found on both control searches |
| Google AI Mode | 0 of 8 | Found on both attempts |
| ChatGPT | 0 of 8 | Found on both explicit source requests; no citation for the sentence alone |
| Claude | 0 of 7 | Target page not verified in 3 attempts |
| Perplexity | 0 of 8 | Found on both attempts |
| Google Maps | 0 of 4 | Not tested |
AI Overviews appeared on six of the eight Google searches. The other two returned no matching documents. Those are eight searches, not eight AI answers.
Claude did not establish that it could retrieve the website control, so its post results are less informative.
Maps found our profile when we added the business name, but did not retrieve the post.
The website control was selected to be findable. It checks whether a tool can reach that source; it does not make this a fair comparison of websites and GBP Posts.
We asked more than once
Our Grounding Drift research is why I don’t trust a single AI visibility check. The same question can produce different sources on the next attempt.
We repeated the post prompts word for word, using fresh chats where applicable. The progression added the business name, then Google Business Profile, then the specific post. That measures how much direction we supplied. The identical repeats check whether the response held up.
Exact prompts and test conditions
- gibberalatodocuklash
- What is gibberalatodocuklash in relation to Steady Demand? Find and cite the original source.
- Find gibberalatodocuklash in Steady Demand’s Google Business Profile. Cite the source you actually retrieved.
- Find the Steady Demand Google Business Profile Post containing gibberalatodocuklash. Report the post’s text and date only if you can retrieve them, and cite the post.
Each post prompt had two counted attempts, except Claude’s entity prompt, which had one usable answer. Maps used the bare word and “Steady Demand gibberalatodocuklash,” twice each.
ChatGPT used temporary, unpersonalized chats.
Claude used incognito with web search.
Perplexity used anonymous incognito.
Google was signed in from Phoenix, and its footer said results were not personalized.
The source-class and specific-post repeats were roughly a minute apart. Other repeats were about 20 minutes to an hour apart.
Fresh chats did not remove shared account, cache or location effects.
The website sentence was “There is no published ranking formula for local-business citations in AI answers.” Google, AI Mode and Perplexity received it quoted on the first attempt and unquoted on the second. Those control attempts were not byte-identical repeats.
We excluded a Claude run that searched connected work apps, two Claude connector-permission non-answers, truncated submissions and an incomplete ChatGPT response. Early Claude runs had connectors enabled even when the captures showed no connector use.
Two attempts are a small repeat check. They don’t establish a reliable retrieval rate.
The missing control matters
We wanted a second phrase that lived only in another GBP Post. All four candidates we checked also appeared on our Facebook or Instagram accounts. An AI could have found those phrases without ever reaching Google Business Profile.
We rejected them. That left us without a valid GBP-only control.
The original screenshot says “Published last month,” or approximately one month before it was captured. We do not have its capture date or the exact publication date. The public posts list we accessed loaded only the ten newest posts, back to September 4. It did not let us verify the test post’s current visibility.
Exact-string web searches at the start and end found no matching page. That is a contamination check, not proof that Google never stored or indexed the post.
And once this article is published, the word will have another public source. Any later match will need its source checked before it can tell us anything about the GBP Post.
What I’d do with this
We couldn’t retrieve this post, even after pointing the tools toward it.
If information matters to your business, I would give it a clear home on your website as well as posting it to GBP. Several tools retrieved our website control here. That is useful evidence, though it isn’t a guarantee they’ll retrieve every page.
This test gives us no reason to tell businesses to stop posting. However, if you are posting on GBP expecting it to display in LLM answers, then you should stop expecting that and post for other reasons.
Have you seen a post get indexed in chat?
We retained prompts, responses, source records and screenshots for review. A follow-up needs a new test word, a verified public post and a valid GBP-only control.
